COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MIXER, FLUID, ELECTRIC
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to MIL-M-40600.
1. CLASSIFICATION
1.1. Classification. This commercial item description covers mixers of the following types:
Type
I – Single-spindle mixer with one cup
II – Three-spindle mixer with three cups
III – Five-spindle mixer with five cups
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Design and construction. The mixers shall be furnished with a one-quart, stainless steel, mixing cup for each mixing spindle on the machine. The mixer shall be furnished with a support stand consisting of a metal base and upright section. The upright section shall be equipped with a metal support bracket for holding the mixing cup(s) in place while in operation. The mixers shall be turned on and off by placement and removal of the mixing cup. The misers shall provide for various speeds using either a variable speed motor. Mixers with variable speed motors shall be capable of speed adjustment by a manual switch. Agitators shall be furnished with the mixers. The mixers shall operate smoothly and without excessive vibrations and noise.
2.2 Electrical. Types I and II mixers (Single and triple spindles), shall be supplied with a 6-foot electric cord with a NEMA 5-15 P plug assembled at one end of the cord. Unless otherwise specified, (see 5.2), types I and II shall operate on 120 AC or DC volts, as specified. Unless otherwise specified (see 5.2), the type III mixer (five-spindle), shall operate on 220 AC volts, 50 hertz, single phase power source.
2.3 Standards compliance. Mixers shall comply with the requirements of UL Standard No. 73 and NSF Standard No. C-2.
