2.1.1 Type M racks. Type M racks uniformly loaded with 750 pounds shall be capable of rolling over a 1/8 inch obstacle at an approach speed of approximately 30 feet per 10 seconds without any damage to rack or casters. Type M racks shall have five shelves. Each shelf, including the top shelf, shall have a rail(s) to prevent milk containers from falling off while in transit. The type M rack shall have a design capacity for any of the following:
a. 120 one-gallon containers of milk.
b. 270 half-gallon containers of milk.
c. 480 one-quart containers of milk.
The spacing between shelves shall be 10-7/8 inches ± 1/2 inch. The bottom shelf shall be located 10 inches ± 1 inch from the floor.
2.1.2 Type E racks. Type E racks uniformly loaded with 750 pounds shall be capable of rolling over a 1/8 inch obstacle at an approach speed of approximately 30 feet per 10 seconds without any damage to rack or casters. Type E racks shall have three shelves with a total design capacity of 360 dozen eggs in cartons. The racks shall have vertical bars extending the height of the rack on the back and sides. The spacing between bars shall not be greater than 3-1/2 inches on the back and 4-1/2 inches on the sides. The bottom shelf shall be located 8 inches ± 1 inch from the floor, the spacing between the middle and top shelf shall be 20 inches ± 1 inch, and the spacing between the bottom and middle shelf shall be 20 inches ± 1 inch.
2.2 Data name plate (Government unique requirement see 5.4). The rack shall be furnished with a data name plate in accordance with the applicable requirements of MIL-STD-130 except the requirements for: (a) Methods of applying; (b) Identification tags; (c) Information not required and (d) Optional marking information shall not apply. The data plate shall be made of minimum 20 gauge corrosion-resisting metal and attached to the rack by rivets, screws or welding in such a manner as to meet the applicable National Sanitation Foundation sanitary requirements for this equipment. The plate shall contain the following information which shall be stamped, engraved or applied by photosensitive means:
National Stock Number
Procurement Contract Number
Specification Data
Manufacturer’s name, Address and Telephone Number (List only if different from Manufacturer) Manufacturer’s Model Number
Government Approved Manual Number (When specified, see 5.2)
Each plate shall be placed so that it is readily available to the operator during normal operating use and so as to not adversely affect the life and utility of the item.
