4. Packaging.
4.1 Packaging and packing. Packaging and packing shall be commercial or export as specified (see 5.1).
4.2 Commercial packaging and packing. Each unit shall be cleaned, preserved, packaged, packed, and unitized in accordance with ASTM D 3951.
4.3 Export packaging and packing.
4.3.1 Export packaging. Each machine shall be cleaned, preserved and cushioned to protect against corrosion, deterioration and physical damage during shipping and storage. Disassembled parts and accessories shall be packaged in a fiberboard box conforming to PPP-B-636, type CF or SF, class domestic, style optional.
4.3.2 Export packing. Each machine with its parts package shall be packed in a nailed and lock-corner wood box conforming to PPP-B-621 , class II, style 2, 4, or 7, type I load or a cleated plywood box conforming to PPP-B-601, overseas type, style optional. Each box shall waterproofed with a sealed case liner conforming to MIL-L-10547, type I, II, or IV, grade optional. Each box shall be closed, strapped, and provided with skids in accordance with PPP-B-601 or PPP-B-621 as applicable.
4.3.3 Palletization. When specified, shipping containers shall be palletized in accordance with MIL-STD-147 (see 5.1).
4.4 Marking (commercial and export). Marking of unit packs, shipping containers and palletized unit loads shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-129.
