COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MEAT SLICING MACHINES, ELECTRIC
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
1. CLASSIFICATION
1.1 Classification. The meat slicing machines shall be furnished in the classification specified in ASTM F 919-85 and as changed in 2.1 below.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Salient characteristics. The food slicing machines shall be in accordance with ASTM F 919-85 except as follows:
a. Paragraph 2.1: Delete in entirety.
b. Paragraph 2.3, UL Standards: Delete “UL 73” and its title, and substitute: “UL 763, Motor Operated Commercial Food Preparing Machines”.
Delete: “UL 969, Marking and Labeling Systems”.
c. After paragraph 4.2.1.1 (b): Add the following: “(c) Rate 3 - variable carriage speed”
d. Paragraph 6.1: Delete last sentence and substitute: “All meat slicers shall meet the requirements of UL Standard No. 763. “
e. Delete paragraph 6. 1.1 and substitute the following:
“6.1.1 National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). Acceptable evidence of meeting the applicable requirement of NSF Standard No. 8 shall be one of the following:
(1) A listing in the current edition of the National Sanitation Foundation “Listing of Food Service Equipment” and display of the NSF seal on the finished slicer.
(2) A certification for the slicer issued by NSF under their special one-time contract evaluation/certification service.
