COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
Bread Slicing Machine, Electric Operated, Multiple Knife
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Type I, styles 1 and 2 of MIL-B-43866C.
1. CLASSIFICATION
1.1 Classification. This commercial item description covers one type of bread slicing machine with a gravity feed chute in the following styles (see 5.2).
Style 1 – With stand
Style 2 – Without stand
1.2 CID based part identification number (PIN). A document based PIN to identify types of items is included in section 5. This identification numbering procedure is for Government purposes and does not constitute a requirement for the contractor.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Design and construction. The bread slicing machine shall be electrically operated and be designed to have a knife frames rapidly reciprocated in opposite directions. Each loaf shall be completely sliced as it moves across the knives. Slices shall be cleanly cut and be 1/2 inch nominal in thickness. There shall be no marked change in the shape of the loaf after being sliced. A crumb tray shall be situated for catching all crumbs that fall from the slicer. The machine shall be designed to transversely slice loaves, which are a minimum of 12 inches long and 4-5/8 inches square, at a rate of not less than seven loaves per minute. The bread slicing machine shall consist of knives, knife frames (reciprocating powered type), loaf guides, crumb tray, back and front chute, stand (when required), motor and control assembly. All food contact areas shall be made from commercially available Type 304 or 303 stainless steel. The body of the machine shall be fabricated from Type 1018
