from splashing during operation; a vegetable discharge outlet with hinged door and latch; a waste outlet located below the disc; a water sprayer to wash and flush the interior of the cylinder and the vegetables during operation; and an “On-Off” switch. When specified, a timer shall be provided which may be adjusted from increments of 15 seconds up to at least 4 minutes (see 5.2).
2.1.1 Style 1 peeling machines. Style 1 peeling machines shall be equipped with provisions for counter mounting.
2.1.2 Style 2 peeling machines. Style 2 peeling machines shall be supported by a base with adjustable legs with provisions for bolting the legs to the floor. When specified, style 2 peeling machines shall be furnished with a waste disposer with an “On-Off” switch (see 5.2).
2.1.3 Motors. Unless otherwise specified, peeling machines shall operate on nominal 208 V, three-phase, 60 Hz service (see 5.2). Capacitor-start motors shall be not less than 1/3 hp, and 1 hp for sizes A, B, and C machines respectively. The motor for the waste disposer shall be 1/2 hp minimum with a manual reset overload protection button.
2.1.4 Electrical wiring. Peeling machines shall be completely wired with provisions for a grounded permanent power supply by electric flexible conduit. When specified, peeling machines shall be furnished with a power cord at least 6 feet long and terminated with a NEMA three-prong grounding plug (see5.2).
2.2 Standard compliance. The vegetable peeling machine shall comply with the applicable requirements of NSF International Standard No. 8 and UL Standard No. 73 or No. 763. The waste disposer shall conform to the applicable requirement of ASSE Standard No. 1009 (see 3.2).
2.3 User instructions (“Government unique” requirement). Unless otherwise specified, each peeling machine shall be equipped with a user’s instruction plate. The instructions shall be in characters not less than 3/32 inch high and except the words “VEGETABLE PEELER” shall be not less than 3/16 inch high; the words “USER’S INSTRUCTIONS” shall be in characters not less than 1/8 inch high.
